Catherine Weitzman has been creating her signature line of silver and glass jewelry for the past six years. her inspiration emerges from her own innate sense of organic stye, her love and respect for the ocean, and her extensive world travels. it was during these travels that catherine started honing her design skills and had the good fortune to study hand in hand with traditional artisans from many of the exotic locales that for periods of time became home. in addition to apprenticing with metalsmiths at the scuola lorenzo di medici in florence, this group of mentors included the silversmiths of the sahara, bamboo whittlers from indonesia, and the creators of precious metal clay in tokyo.
Drawing equally from each of these experiences, catherine developed her own unique process and style of glass fabrication. she designs much of the work with her husband, scott diamond, and is blessed to produce the jewelry with an extremely gifted handmade production team in their california and hawaii studios. after establishing the business in san francisco, operations expanded to include a studio and office in honolulu, where administrative responsibilities have also shifted. this proximity to the ocean has inspired an exclusive new line of all glass jewelry for coastal areas, under the name illuminus glassworks. catherine and scott design with a sense of fun and a love of life. their aim is to share this with each individual who sees the jewelry, wears it, and makes it her own.
JEWELRY CARE - All Catherine Weitzman jewelry will be shipped in a gift box, along with a care card to explain the best way to keep your jewelry looking new and fresh.
Sterling Silver: Silver will naturally tarnish when exposed to the air, so storing it in an airtight container (ziplocks work great!) will help to minimize the amount of care necessary. To maintain the matte finish, you can use a toothbrush with any white toothpaste, or even bon-ami household cleaner.
18K Vermeil Gold: Our gold vermeil jewelry is a heavy 18k gold plating over sterling silver. The quality of our plating is excellent, and to ensure that it lasts a long time, please store your jewelry in an airtight container when not being worn. In addition, plated jewelry should not be worn in swimming pools, while bathing, or while putting on perfumes or hairspray. If you would like to clean your plated jewelry, please do not use harsh
chemicals - even jewelry cleaners. Gently rub using mild soap and water for best results.
Patina (Blackened) Sterling Silver: To achieve the matte black finish on sterling silver, the metal is oxidized until its surface reaches a uniform black color, then sprayed with a protective coating. The patina jewelry should not be cleaned like sterling silver and one should avoid exposure to harsh chemicals.
